Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you doing this?
We are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of a special fundraising project of the Alzheimer Society of B.C. This Society is a fantastic organization that helps people who have Alzheimer Disease (and other dementias) - as well as providing great support for their caregivers.
Alzheimer Disease has affected our lives, and we'd like to do our part to help the Alzheimer Society help others...
Here is more information on why we are doing this...
How much money do you need to raise?
In order to join the climb team, we pledged to raise a minimum of $10,000 for the Alzheimer Society of B.C., but seeing the challenge this disease causes so many, we are aiming much higher, doing whatever we can to reach an outstanding amount of $100,000.00!
Over the past 10 years, Ascent for Alzheimer's has raised over 1.6 million with the assistance 124 participants!!
So if I provide you with a donation, where will my money go?
ALL THE MONEY you donate goes directly to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
The Alzheimer Society of B.C.'s mission is "to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer Disease and related dementias, to promote public awareness and to search for the causes and the cures".
All the money you donate will be dedicated to fulfilling this mandate for the people of British Columbia.
As climb team members, we are paying our own expenses. Airfare and Land Expenses will cost over $6,500 CDN- which we are paying for ourselves. This cost does not include our personal equipment, meals while in towns, etc. Of course, we will also be taking time off from work
Is this an 'official' fundraising initiative?
Yes. The Ascent for Alzheimer's project is an 'official' project of the Alzheimer Society of B.C. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is a leading funder of Alzheimer research and research training in Canada.
By donating to our Ascent for Alzheimer's, you are eligible for a full charitable tax receipt for donations over $15.00. Donations $500+ also receive a special letter from the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
The Charitable Registration BN is: 11878 4891 RR0001

How long will it take to do the climb?
It will take five (5) days to climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro, and two (2) days to climb back down.
Will I be able to hear how your climb is going?
Yes. When our climb begins (September 2007), we will update "Follow the Journey" page on this site detailing how our climb is going. This journal will be updated frequently throughout our climb via satellite transmission direct from Mt. Kilimanjaro! Please visit the climb journal often to see how we are doing.
